Holiday Survival Tips

FRIENDLY REMINDER!!!!!

The holidays are not joyful for everyone. The pressure to be happy, have a good time, and be merry brings sadness and anxiety to so many people.

That DOES NOT mean YOU cannot enjoy the festivities, but remember to be aware not everyone has the same experience with friends, family, or even themselves.

Remember to be kind, show grace, and try not to add guilt to someone who struggles this time of year.

Here are a few tips that help me and might help if you are struggling:

  1. Make time for self-care. Start with showing yourself some grace and accepting it's okay to feel how you feel. I always make plans in the weeks following the new year to have something to look forward to.

  2. Do good for someone. Acts of kindness help us feel satisfied while reducing stress and improving our emotional well-being.

  3. Pay attention to the good things. Grab a notebook and write down at least one thing every day that went well. Also, do this every day outside of the holidays.

  4. Take the "bathroom breather." A personal favorite of mine during holiday gatherings. It makes it seem like I ate something upsetting, but I often use it to decompress and recompose.

  5. Talk to a friend or loved one. I know this is tough, but try asking them to listen and share what's difficult for you.

We all got this. I am sending you all love and support.
